Café JCC, an online community launched recently for new students who have been accepted at JCC for the fall semester, continues to gather interest and activity.
“Café JCC is a coffeehouse-themed website focused on engaging new students,” notes Julie Ellis, interim director of student recruitment. “The site provides a cohesive platform to present information from various sources to incoming students.
“Students can participate in online discussions with each other and café baristas, ask questions, voice their opinions in polls, and make new friends - all before they set foot on campus for their first classes,” Ms. Ellis added.
“For example, students entering JCC’s professional piloting program from diverse high school communities throughout the region will have a chance to talk about their interest in aviation before they actually meet in a classroom,” she noted. “Similarly, students will be able to connect with other students enrolling at JCC from their own communities and high schools. Café JCC is a dynamic social networking opportunity within a defined community of students.”
JCC staff and current students serve as the café baristas to facilitate discussions, help students find information about the college, and answer questions.
Users are prompted to create profiles containing details on academic, athletic, and personal interests and are encouraged to participate in forums and topical discussions and surveys. Facebook, flickr, and twitter accounts can also be accessed from Café JCC.
The site’s Checklist feature provides information on advisement, registration, financial aid, and immunization deadlines, details on the Jamestown Campus residence life program, and campus life programming at JCC sites.
