College Credit At Chautauqua Courses Offered

JCC is offering two College Credit at Chautauqua courses this summer.

Each one-credit course, which reflects a particular morning lecture theme at Chautauqua Institution, is offered at a discounted rate of $100 for New York state residents and $200 for non-residents. A $100 lab fee, which covers the cost of the weeklong morning Chautauqua gate and parking passes, is also charged.

Conversations With Writers at Chautauqua, which will be held June 28 through July 2, provides an opportunity to hear writers and guest lecturers Jim Lehrer, Alan Alda, Anne Fadiman, Alice McDermott, and Marsha Norman. Students will explore writing techniques, genres, and approaches to enhance their appreciation of diverse writing styles.

A preliminary meeting for the writers’ course will be held at JCC’s Jamestown Campus on June 24.

Excellence in Education, which reflects Chautauqua’s morning lecture theme, “Excellence in Public Education,” will be conducted August 2 through 6. A preliminary meeting for students in the course will be held at JCC on July 27.

Students will hear presentations by Barbara Bowman, Jonathan Schnur, Mark Roosevelt, and Randi Weingarten, educational leaders who provide multiple perspectives and strategies for educational improvement. Students who are seeking a professional development certificate must attend all Chautauqua lectures during the week as well as JCC classes and submit a documented analytical report.

Course and registration information can be obtained by calling the JCC registrar’s office, 716.338.1018. Additional details on Chautauqua’s lecture programs can be accessed at www.ciweb.org.
