The academic advising process at Jamestown Community College assists students in developing and implementing educational plans that are compatible with their life goals and which lead to student success and completion. Advisement provides a connecting and caring experience for students while emphasizing the importance of student responsibility in the process.
Counselors and faculty advisors are available for both full-time and part-time students. Students with declared majors are typically assigned to faculty who teach within those majors. Undeclared students are assigned to career counselors for advisement until a major is declared. Your advisor will not only help you understand your degree requirements, but will also help you clarify your educational and career goals. Student and advisor responsibilities and expectations are outlined in the advising syllabus. Answers to frequently asked questions regarding advisement can be found on the Preparing for Advisement link.
Not sure who your advisor is? You can find this information in Degree Works, under your student information menu on Banner, or by contacting the Counseling and Career Center. If you would like to change your advisor, complete and submit this form before the end of the first week of classes.
