Planning your career & education
What do you want to do with your education? The Counseling and Career Center at Jamestown Community College can help you prepare for life after college. Schedule an appointment to work with a career counselor on exploring your interests, finding information on careers and related college majors, and deciding on the best career option for you.
If you know what kind of job you’re looking for, we can help you with the job search, too.
JCC’s Counseling and Career Center can help you at every step. Our career counselors specialize in career planning, and we encourage you to contact the Center to schedule a meeting.
Step 1: Explore your interests & experiences
An important first step of career planning is to know yourself. Spend some time reflecting on who you are and what is important to you. Career assessment tools can help you learn more about what motivates you and provide you with a list of possible career options.
Step 2: Find information about careers & related majors
As you start to explore your interests and learn how you want to use your talents in the workplace, you can research what kind of career you want to have. See how different careers match your values and skills that you want to develop.
Step 3: Decide on your best career options
Once you have developed a strong understanding of your interests, skills, experience, and possible careers, you can use this information to choose careers that are the best fit for you.
It’s ok to change your mind and keep yourself open to different careers, both now and in the future. If you don’t know what you want to do, that’s ok too. Take the time to explore your options, and set up a meeting with a JCC counselor if you have any questions.
