This class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. Students will learn and demonstrate an understanding of the art of Hatha yoga and relaxation techniques. Students will learn how to relieve stress and emotional tension through the systematic training of guided imagery, diaphragmatic breathing, and breath awareness. The course includes lectures on yoga philosophy, postures, diet, meditation, and relaxation techniques. Hatha yoga is a human science that takes into consideration bodily pains, poor posture, faulty breathing, and incorrect walking, and teaches greater awareness of the body as a whole without separating it from the mind and the influences of all senses. Students will learn the skills of preventive lifeguarding, water rescue techniques, and aquatic facility management for pools and waterfronts. American Red Cross certification in CPR for the professional rescuer, lifeguarding, community first aid, automatic external defibrillator, and waterfront module may be used upon successful course completion. Students will understand the fundamentals of strength and conditioning as it relates to athletes across a wide variety of ages, levels, and abilities. This course will introduce students to topics such as muscle anatomy and function, metabolism, bio-mechanics, nutrition and more. Upon completion of this course, students will earn their NFHS Strength and Conditioning Certificate. This certificate is a requirement for the AIC Level 1 Coaching License. No requisites. Students will develop the skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to become a successful high school basketball official. This course will examine the need for, role of, and structure of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc. (IAABO) and its rules. The overall course focus will be on how this governing body impacts and supports the officiating experience. Special attention will be given to providing the student with the tools they need to become a competent and successful basketball official. Further emphasis will be placed on how competent officiating supports the positive impact that high school basketball has on its student-athletes, their schools, and their communities. Upon completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to earn certification and membership in IAABO and its appropriate local chapter(s). No requisites. Master Course Syllabus
