Students will read rhetorically and critically, and will analyze a variety of texts on current, inter-disciplinary topics. The course focuses on writing for specific audiences and purposes with an emphasis on academic composing. As such, students will develop skills that prepare them for academic and professional writing as they practice recursive writing processes and learn to enter conversations through informed and effective academic expression. Students will explore principles of effective writing in several genres - including creative writing and journalism - and across media, including digital media. Students will develop skills and vocabulary associated with various writing communities, analyze professional texts, and produce their own genre-specific writing. In addition to developing an awareness of audience, students will gain skills in revising, editing, giving feedback to other writers, and working with various forms and sources of feedback.
