Students will develop speech and literacy proficiency of the English language. Students will be introduced to and apply critical reading skills. They will also develop composition skills. They will also develop composition skills and implement revision practices to create original texts in English. Students will experience and rehearse spoken English to improve fluency, pronunciation, clarity, and speech organization. Students will engage in activities and discussion oriented around life in the U.S., navigating college in another country, and use of the English language. Students will work in a supportive setting with peers and an instructor to promote comfort and understanding of life, student and communication in the U.S. Students will at times lead class topics with questions about life and courses at JCC. Students will also be involved with campus and community events to foster engagement and interaction in order to promote English language and cultural proficiency. Master Course Syllabus

Students will experience and rehearse spoken English to improve fluency, pronunciation, clarity, and speech organization. Areas of grammar and sentence/paragraph structure will be contextualized within general language development.
