Lake Erie Shipwrecks: The Dynamic Dozen

#6454: Apr. 22 (W), 7-8:30 p.m., NCTC 119, $25

Discover one dozen recently found shipwrecks from a Schooner sporting a large brass bell to a long sought-after steamer. Georgann and Mike will amaze you with stories of the discovery and exploration of shipwrecks in our own backyard. Shallow or deep, intact or not, each is an exciting slice of history.

Traffic Survival Workshops

The Point/Insurance Reduction Program, offered through the National Traffic Safety Institute and approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles, offers participants a way to reduce driver record violation points and/or insurance premiums. Saturday and daytime classes have a 1/2 hour lunch on your own. Please bring your driver’s license to class. 

Note: Students must arrive at this class promptly by 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. If you are late, you will not be admitted. We strictly adhere to this policy. This applies to every JCC location.

Adult Sailing Lessons

#4523: July 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, Dunkirk Yacht Club, $175 [Adult Sailing brochure]

Our experienced sailing instructors will help crews learn to maneuver a small sailboat on the open water. By the end of the lessons you will know the language of sailing, the rules of boating, and how to solve problems that can come up while you are on the water. Classes will take place at the Dunkirk Yacht Club, Lakeshore Drive, Dunkirk, NY on Lake Erie.

Additional information: 

  • A swimming evaluation will take place for all students during class on July 6. This evaluation will include the ability to tread water and swim wearing a life jacket with clothing. This is not a swimming test.
  • On July 15 you will get a chance to sail on the Shark racing boats and enjoy a cookout after the race. (Details provided at a later date.)
  • Class requirement: a well- fitting U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket.
