COURT AND REALTIME REPORTING - Special Partnership Opportunity
Through a combination of credits earned at Jamestown Community College and online courses from Alfred State College, students can complete Alfred’s Associate in Applied Science degree in court and realtime reporting. This program, approved by the National Court Reporters Association, prepares students for careers as official, freelance, realtime reporters, and captioners. Jobs are available for competent court reporters to work in all fields of reporting, including realtime and closed captioning for the hearing impaired.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Certificate
This 30-credit hour certificate prepares individuals to start and manage their own businesses while providing current business owners with skills associated with entrepreneurship which will allow them to expand and develop existing businesses. Students develop an understanding of accounting, marketing, business law, and management as they relate to business ownership. Core courses focus on communications, customer service, networking, marketing with limited resources, succession planning, and tax issues associated with business ownership. May be completed online.
MEDICAL OFFICE TECHNOLOGY - Associate in Applied Science degree
This 60-credit hour career program provides students with the skills necessary to prepare for employment in today’s medical office. The program offers an education that prepares a student in automated medical office communications, medical terminology, medical coding, medical transcription, and medical insurance, along with a broad background in liberal arts that will add to students’ ability to develop decision-making skills. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to enter the job market or transfer to a four-year college.
MEDICAL OFFICE TECHNOLOGY - Certificate
This 31-credit hour program provides students with the specialized skills necessary to prepare for employment in a medical office and develops students’ office skills along with specialization directed toward medical terminology, medical insurance, and medical office procedures. The program may also offer short-term training to those seeking to increase their marketability or seeking a career change. The certificate provides students with the basic core of work and problem-solving abilities and constitutes the first half of the associate degree in medical office technology.

The ability to solve problems will be stressed throughout the certificate program. This certificate provides a basic core of work that may be applied toward the associate degree requirements. Students often combine this certificate with two-year associate degree programs from other areas to enhance employment opportunities.
