Students and Parents

Congratulations on your decision to accept the challenge of taking a college course(s) while in high school. This opportunity is not for every student - your academic performance and willingness to go "above and beyond" has prepared you for this next step in your academic career. You will experience the pace, rigor, and personal responsibility that are crucial to success in college. As are all Jamestown Community College students, you are responsible for knowing campus policies and procedures. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to discuss them with your teacher, guidance counselor, or College Connections staff. We are here to support you and our desire is to see you succeed.


Typically, there is no charge to New York state residents. Out-of-state residents pay reduced tuition. Some courses do require a lab, and there may be an associated lab fee.

The Courses

College Connections courses are taught by approved high school instructors who partner with JCC faculty to ensure that the course offered in the high school is consistent with those offered on campus. Students must meet the same college standards as on-campus students.

College Connections courses:

  • Use college curriculum
  • Follow college assignments and testing requirements
  • Use college text books


During course selection, students tell their guidance counselor which course(s) they are interested in pursuing. Guidance counselors will explain whether or not students are eligible for each course based on pre-requisites or placement test requirements. 

Placement Testing

Some courses may require placement testing or course prerequisites. Guidance counselors schedule online Accuplacer placement testing at the high school and will notify students of the placement test date and time. After the test, students check with their guidance counselors to learn test results. If scores do not meet course requirements, students may retest. Students may test and retest once each academic year. 

Certificate of Residence

All students must complete a Certificate of Residence (COR) form. New York state education law requires the college to have a current certificate of residence on record for each student account every academic year. The COR form must be notarized. This form is required in order to register for any courses at JCC.

Course Withdrawal

Students who are considering either dropping or withdrawing from a class should always consult with their guidance counselor. If students wish to formally withdraw from any courses, there are important dates to consider. Please note that the withdrawal process begins with a student request to either the course teacher or guidance counselor. Students may withdrawal from a single course up to and through 66% of individual class meetings for the fall and spring semesters and receive a “W” grade.  Withdrawing from a course may affect a student’s future Satisfactory Academic Progress at JCC. Students withdrawing after 66% of class meetings must withdraw from all JCC courses being taken, including any on-campus or online courses. All program teachers and guidance counselors are aware of the withdrawal dates. Failure to properly withdraw from a course will result in the student receiving the grade he or she earned in the course. Students who no longer attend class, quit school, or move out of the school district also need to be withdrawn from their JCC College Connections courses.

Transferring Credits

JCC enjoys high transferability rates. College Connections students have the option of continuing their education at JCC or transferring their credits to another institution. College Connections students transfer thousands of JCC credits to other institutions each year. Past surveys indicate that less than 1% of students experienced difficulty in transferring credits.

Requesting a Transcript

A transcript is a written record of a student’s grades. Once enrolled in a College Connections course, an official college transcript will be generated and every course and grade that is earned will be recorded. Transcripts are updated at the completion of every semester. However, it may take up to 10 days for a course to appear on a transcript. At any time, a student may submit a transcript request that the JCC registrar’s office may send his or her transcript directly to another college or to a prospective employer. Unofficial transcripts may be picked up in the registrar’s office.
