JCC’s teacher education transfer degree programs (Liberal Arts & Sciences: Adolescence Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences: Childhood Education, and Liberal Arts & Sciences: Early Childhood Education) provide students with knowledge, skills, theory, and hands-on educational experiences that will prepare them for transfer to a four-year institution with New York state teacher certification authority.
Graduates will be able to transfer with full credit and junior status into participating SUNY four-year teacher education programs. Students will begin fulfilling their liberal arts concentration requirements along with courses in education theory and practice. Concentration areas include: art, biology, chemistry, earth science, English, foreign language, general science, history/social studies, mathematics, music, and physics.
- JCC’s teacher education degree programs prepare students for transfer to classroom teacher preparation programs in the areas of adolescence education (grades 7-12), childhood education (grades 1-6), and early childhood education (birth through age two) at four-year institutions with New York state teacher certification authority.
- Students should plan their programs with a JCC transfer counselor and academic advisor, preferably before beginning their first semester at JCC.
- Students in JCC’s early childhood development certificate program learn the skills, values, and knowledge to work at entry level positions in early childhood education and child care.
