35th Annual College & Career Night
featuring Funding an Education workshops
6-8 p.m.

JCC and the Chautauqua County Counselors Association will host College & Career Night on October 18 in the Physical Education Complex on JCC’s Jamestown Campus. Admission is free. For additional information call 716.338.1065.  See the brochure here.

Representatives from nearly 60 colleges and 80 career areas will be available to speak with interested students, parents, and other community residents during the event.

Information on financial aid planning is available during Funding an Education sessions at 6 and 7:15 p.m. in the Lenna Theatre of the Hultquist Library. Area scholarships available through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation will be outlined as well.

You will find your conversations with College and Career Night representatives more productive if you think about the questions you'd like to ask ahead of time. Questions might include:

For career representatives

  • What are your work responsibilities?
  • What are your typical work hours?
  • Could you describe your work setting?
  • What are some ways of getting trained for this career?
  • Is special licensing required?
  • What personal qualities are needed?
  • What school subjects would help?
  • What is the salary range?
  • What do you like and dislike about the job?
  • What is the employment outlook? Locally? Nationally?
  • How is the occupation likely to be affected by technology or change?
  • What are some related occupations?
  • What are the opportunities for growth within this field?

For college representatives

  • Do you have a specific program in my area of interest?
  • What are the annual costs of attending your college or university?
  • Could you describe the community in which you are located?
  • What are the admission requirements?
  • Is special licensing required?
  • What percentage of students graduating with degrees in my area of interest find related employment?
  • What are the special features of your college or university (financial aid, campus activities, athletics, etc.)?
  • What are the deadlines for submitting an application?
