Preparing for Advisement

JCC strongly encourages students to take an active role in their academic planning!  To ensure that the advisement process is both successful and productive, students are encouraged to use the following resources prior to meeting with their faculty advisors:

Be aware of your responsibility in the advisement process

Print and complete an advisement checklist.

Be aware of your degree requirements and make sure you are working toward satisfying these requirements each semester.

Do a degree evaluation on Banner to keep track of your progress toward your degree completion.

Make a tentative schedule using the master schedule, consulting your college catalog when necessary.

Use your college catalog (page 38) to select courses that meet specific distribution requirements in your degree program.

Be aware of VEDP (Values, Ethics, and Diverse Perspectives) and SR (Scientific Reasoning) requirements.

If you are transfering, make sure you have researched the requirements of the program at your transfer school and be sure to discuss these with your advisor. Information on transferring can be found here.
