Discover professional connections
Through an internship at Jamestown Community College, you can apply what you’re learning to what you want to do. Connect your academic interests with career goals. Network with professionals. Bring your learning to life. We partner with companies and organizations in our community, across the state, and around the world.
Internships can be paid or unpaid, and for credit or not for credit. For-credit, academic internships require a faculty sponsor, completion of at least 24 college credits, and 2.0 GPA. You will complete 45 hours of work for each credit earned.
If you’re intrigued by the idea of an internship, but aren’t sure if you should complete one for credit, start by answering these questions:
- Does your program require an internship?
If so, your program might arrange field placements. Check with your advisor!
- Can you commit the time?
A three-credit internship requires 135 hours of on-site and supplemental work.
- Are you eligible for a credit-bearing internship?
You must have completed at least 24 credits and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Do you have room for an internship course?
If your internship will count as an elective, be sure you won’t need those elective credits later.
- Will your financial aid be affected?
Ask someone who knows for certain!
If it’s not the right time for a credit-bearing internship, don’t despair! An internship can still be a great learning experience, especially if you develop a contract and use a framework for reflective practice to guide you.
