A variety of course formats, both full- and part-time, are available to meet individual student needs. Students can take elective courses on a part-time basis prior to entering the program. However, full-time status is required once the student advances in the OTA curriculum sequence. OTA advisors will guide each student in making decisions regarding the individualized format best suited to his/her needs. Students intending to complete their degree requirements in four semesters may follow this suggested format. Be advised that the two-year format is very rigorous.  Most students find that a three-year format is advantageous.  Please speak to an advisor for more information.

 Important Points

• Successful completion of high school chemistry or CHE 1500 or 1530 is required for BIO 2510.
• BIO 2510: Anatomy and Physiology I must be completed with a minimum grade of “C”.
• BIO 2520: Anatomy and Physiology II must be completed with a minimum grade of “C".
• All students must successfully pass each OTA course with a minimum grade of “C" and a GPA of 2.5 or better to enroll in OTA 2700 and OTA 2720.
• The four semester sequence of OTA courses begins each fall semester.
• OTA courses are offered only on the Jamestown Campus. All other required courses are scheduled so they may be taken at either the Jamestown or Cattaraugus County campuses.
• All OTA courses, other than fieldwork, are only offered one time per year and must be taken sequentially starting in the fall.
• Not all general education courses are offered on all campuses every semester. The master schedule for each semester lists current offerings. See the course descriptions section of the college catalog for frequency of offerings.
• All OTA students must complete the full-time Level II Fieldwork within 18 months following completion of OTA 2510, 2530, 2550, and 2620.
• Both course and fieldwork levels I and II experiences require travel. Students must have transportation to participate and successfully meet all course and fieldwork requirements.
• Level II fieldwork experiences may require the student to travel outside of the area. Special housing may be needed for one or both Level II fieldwork experiences.
• Students must have online computer access to successfully meet course requirements.
• Students are responsible for meeting the screening requirements for each facility and incurring screening expenses.
• Fingerprinting and criminal background checks must be completed prior to second semester OTA coursework and Level I and Level II fieldwork placement.
• Transfer options are available and may require additional coursework.
• Some courses have prerequisites. Students should check course descriptions to be sure course prerequisites have been met.
• Successful completion of a credit bearing mathematics course is a graduation requirement for students entering the college fall 1996 and thereafter.
• First time, full-time students are required to take INT 1520: Student Success Seminar.
• CPR certification through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association (Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers) is required prior to registering for OTA 2700 or OTA 2720.
• Health physicals and Mantoux tests must be updated annually.
