The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD, 20824-1220. AOTA’s phone number is 301/652-AOTA.
Graduates of the program will be able to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). For more certification information, visit www.nbcot.org.
At the time of submission of applicants for NBCOT certification and state licensure, the applicant is required to report a history of a felony or misdemeanor. NBCOT will review the information submitted by the applicant and will determine if the applicant is eligible. A history of a felony or a misdemeanor may jeopardize the applicant’s eligibility for certification or licensure.
Each state has specific requirements for licensure. Contact the appropriate state board for more information: Occupational Therapy Regulatory Body Contact List by State.
