JCC will introduce a new intensive summer English language immersion program on the Jamestown Campus in August.
The non-credit program is suited for both international students who will visit the area to strengthen their English skills as well as area residents for whom English is not a first language.
Running August 1-23, the program will include six hours of intensive study each weekday focusing on the English language including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Cultural orientation will also be part of the program, and participants will have the opportunity to visit Niagara Falls and other regional points of interest.
Julia Mineeva-Braun, an adjunct member of JCC's English faculty, will be the primary course instructor.
Individuals who are not U.S. citizens will be required to have F-1 student visas, but are not required to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The program cost of $1800 includes instruction, textbook, materials, homestay with an area family, ground transportation, weekend excursions, and some meals. Fees will be adjusted for individuals not needing accommodations. The application deadline is June 15 for individuals who are not U.S. citizens.
The immersion program is part of JCC's commitment to globalize the JCC experience by attracting more international students, infusing global concepts into the curriculum, enhancing opportunities for JCC students to study abroad, and providing diverse global enrichment opportunities for the college and the community.
JCC officials are seeking to strengthen global initiatives by reaching out to area industries which conduct international business, the area's international healthcare community, and other regional colleges and universities.
