The Bonnie Loch Fiddlers, under the direction of Sue Tillotson, will perform at 7 p.m. on March 10 in Cutco Theater on JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus.
The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by Cutco Foundation, Olean Medical Group, and the JCC Faculty Student Association.
The performance, part of the Rising Star Series, includes a blend of traditional, contemporary, and original Celtic music. Band member Lydia Byard, reigning U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion in the Open division, will be featured. She was one of six finalists in the Niel Gow International Composition Competition last fall.
Aemile Donoghue of the Olean Area Irish Dancers will accompany the group in selected pieces. Miss Donoghue, aseventh grader at Ellicottville Central School, studies with Katie Duggan.
The Bonnie Loch Fiddlers, ranging in age from 12 to 18, have performed throughout the region since 2002. The group has performed at the Ohio and Edinboro Scottish Games, the Heart of the Allegheny Music Festival and, in 2008, in Inverness, Scotland as part of a Transatlantic Music fusion series. They have opened for Gaelic Storm and Leahy and perform for weddings, contra dances, and festivals.
In 2009 the Bonnie Loch Fiddlers were featured in an article and CD review in the British magazine ‘Fiddle On’. The group’s newest CD, Darach, features original and traditional tunes.
The Bonnie Loch Fiddlers grew out of the Bonnie Loch Fiddle Club, a monthly gathering of fiddlers.
