JCC’s early childhood development certificate program enables students to obtain the skills, values, and knowledge necessary to work in entry level positions in early childhood education/child care such as assistants in preschools, childcare centers and family day care homes, and in school-age child care settings.
In addition, the program provides opportunities for those already employed in child care facilities, including family care providers and those holding the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, to update and refresh their knowledge and skills. The program also provides interested students the opportunity to continue their education beyond the level of a certificate to that of an Associate in Applied Sciences in human services with the added possibility of transferring to a bachelor's level program in early childhood education. This certificate can be used as part of a more complete career ladder in early childhood education and care.
Career Opportunities
The demand for early childhood programs has been increasing due to the large number of families in which all adults are employed, trends in the national economy, government priorities for children and their families, and public demand for services. Adults working with young children in early childhood settings are responsible for providing rich experiences that will influence children throughout their lives. Competent and loving childcare contributes to the total development of children and the well-being of families.
A career in early childhood may be rewarding to you if you relate well to people, have a high energy level, and are interested in making a difference in people’s lives. The certificate program confirms JCC’s recognition of and commitment toward professionalization of careers in early childhood education and care.
