Dislocated Workers Urged To Visit JCC May 13

Individuals who are unemployed or underemployed are encouraged to visit JCC’s Jamestown Campus on May 13 to explore the college’s certificate and degree programs and learn about admissions procedures and financial aid opportunities.

“We’re encouraging people to call us ahead to schedule appointments between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. that day so that we can provide personalized attention from career counseling, financial aid, and admissions personnel,” said Julie Ellis, interim director of student recruitment. “Those unable to visit on May 13 are always welcome on other days, but we’ve made a special effort to clear calendars and focus on the unique needs of dislocated workers on Wednesday.”

“One of the most gratifying aspects of my role at JCC is talking to individuals who have had their lives completely transformed by the JCC experience,” said JCC President Gregory T. DeCinque.

“JCC does an excellent job of helping students find where their strengths and passions intersect with employment opportunities,” added Dr. DeCinque. “The environment here is just right for individuals who may have been away from the classroom for some time, but need to retool and re-energize themselves for a new direction.

“In addition to being supported by faculty and staff, these students support and encourage each other. Although the news is initially devastating, it’s important to realize that you’re not the first person to become unemployed and you can become inspired by fellow students who are headed for success.”
