English Immersion Program Planned

JCC will offer its English Immersion Program for non-English speakers July 24-August 14 at the Jamestown Campus.

Begun last year, JCC’s program features intensive training in English grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation as well as listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for individuals planning to study or work in the area.

Tuition and fees for the non-credit program is $1845, which includes materials, on-campus housing, ground transportation, and some meals. The program cost for those who have other housing arrangements is $885. The registration deadline is June 15.

Attracting individuals from other cultures to participate in and contribute to the JCC community is one of the college’s strategies for developing a global perspective,” noted Victoria Peterson, international outreach coordinator. “Our English Immersion Program is designed to assist individuals to improve their English communications skills in a short period of time. Participants will receive a rich intercultural experience, learn cross-cultural communication skills, and increase global competence.”

“The English Immersion Program is a wonderful opportunity for non-native speakers of English to improve their speaking, writing and listening skills and experience American culture in a safe, small town college campus in a region that just happens to be a great summer destination,” said Grant Umberger, project manager for JCC’s Center for Continuing Education.

“This program is designed to improve English language skills for individuals entering a U.S. college, community members whose first language is not English, and for local employees or their family members who located into the area from another country,” Umberger added.
