Six modest scholarships are currently available to students who are actively pursuing the professional piloting degree. Each application has the minimum requirements specifically stated. Most of these scholarships are awarded in the spring of the academic year. Successful and dedicated students are encouraged to apply. The Dr. Kevin B. Kochersberger Scholarship (download application) is offered through the continued support of Dr. Kochersberger via the JCC Foundation. Dr. Kochersberger, a JCC alumnus, is a Certified Flight Instructor and has logged over 1500 hours. He is a research associate professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech and has been flying since he was 15 years old; he also worked for several years as part of the Wright Experience, a group whose goal was to build a replica of the Wright Brothers’ first aircraft. During the 100th anniversary reenactment of the first flight on December 17, 2003, Dr. Kochersberger actually flew that plane!
The Joseph T. Minarovich Scholarship (download application) is awarded in honor of Joe Minarovich who has dedicated a significant portion of his life and career to the field of aviation and to the education of Jamestown area youth.
The Professional Piloting Award is a cash award that students do not apply for. It is reserved for a graduate who has maintained a strong GPA, has progressed diligently through the flight ratings, and exhibits above average personal skills. The award is presented at the college awards ceremony each May. The recipient(s) is/are chosen by JCC’s director of aviation in consultation with program faculty.
The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum Scholarship (download application) is offered to support the educational goals of a deserving student as s/he pursues a career in an aviation-related field.
The Aero Club of Buffalo, the oldest Aero Club in America, offers two $1,000 awards each spring. The awards are intended for a student pursuing a private pilot or higher certificate, or to be used toward a post-secondary degree program or other training curricula within the aviation field. These applications can be obtained only through JCC’s director of aviation.
The Ted Moll Scholarship is offered through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation to graduates of high schools in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. The CRCF scholarship application, available beginning March 1 and due June 1, makes students eligible for all available CRCF scholarships.
