The People’s Law series, featuring important legal topics presented by members of the Jamestown Bar Association, will be offered at Jamestown Community College’s Jamestown Campus from 6-9 p.m. on Mondays, October 13-November 17.
Tuition for the entire non-credit series is $45, or $10 per session. To register, call JCC’s Center for Continuing Education, 338-1005. The series is sponsored by JCC, the Robert H. Jackson Center Inns of Court, and the Jamestown Bar Association.
Matrimonial and Family Law, offered October 13, outlines grounds for divorce, models for representation and child custody, and financial issues. The session is led by Sherry Bjork, John Westman, and Robert Schnizler.
During the Wills, Estate Planning, Living Wills, Trusts, Health Care Proxies, and Powers of Attorney program on October 20, Dale Robbins, Stephen Wright, and Julie Hewitt will provide indepth information on estate planning as well as how to avoid problems in the death or serious disability of a family member.
Real Estate, Mortgage Foreclosure, and Assessments, offered October 27, examines key considerations of home ownership. The program is facilitated by Robert Van Every, Neil Robinson, Peter Pillitteri, and Arthur Bailey.
Philip Cala, Thomas Rankin, Marilyn Gerace, and John Zuroski will help participants in the Criminal Law and Traffic Violations session on November 3 learn about one’s rights during a traffic stop and what to do if you or a family member is arrested.
Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Benefits, a November 10 session led by George Panebianco, Daniel Gullotti, and Jeff Piazza, will examine eligibility rules, benefits, and procedures.
On November 17, Michael Goldman, Arthur Bailey, and Thomas Rankin will lead the Contracts and Consumer Law session. Topics include items related to banking accounts, overdraft protect, refund anticipation loans, cash advances, and predatory residential mortgage loans. Participants will learn how to safeguard personal information and measures to take if one becomes an identity theft victim.
