JCC's Weeks Gallery will host an opening reception for its annual student art exhibition at 6 p.m. on April 21 in the gallery.

The reception, featuring music by Amanda Barton and Charity Nuse, is free and open to the public. An awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Sarita Hopkins Weeks Reception Hall, during which artistic excellence awards will be presented.

The reception and exhibition are sponsored by the JCC Faculty Student Association, JCC Foundation, and JCC Alumni Association. The exhibition will be on display until May 6. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The exhibition features 55 artists and presents 109 artworks selected from 247 submissions that include drawings, paintings, 2D and 3D design, sculpture, ceramic, mixed media, photography, digital media, and short documentary films. Sixteen artistic excellence and gallery awards will be presented.

“Visitors are always impressed by the diversity of expression, the vitality of the show, and the imaginative ways that students manifest their creative energies and world views,” said James Colby, Weeks Gallery director of exhibitions and galleries.

This year's exhibition was judged by JCC alumnus Nathan Naetzker who received a bachelor's degree in painting from Buffalo State College and a master's degree in fine arts in painting from the New York Academy of Art. He currently teaches foundation and advanced courses at University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, Niagara County and Erie community colleges, and Buffalo Arts Studio.
