Members of the Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation recently toured renovated music facilities on JCC’s Jamestown Campus.

The Sheldon Foundation awarded a $1.1 million grant in 2017 to enable JCC to upgrade classrooms, equipment, and facilities for the music program. Construction, which began in summer 2018, has concluded in time for the start of spring semester classes on January 14.

Expansion and upgrades to the music wing include a state-of-the-art recording studio and computer lab, practice facilities for students, teaching studios for private lessons, and updated spaces for classroom use and for performances and rehearsals.

JCC offers an associate’s degree in fine arts: music and a certificate program in digital audio production. Earlier this month, the New York State Education Department and State University of New York announced the approval of a new music industry degree for JCC.

The new music industry degree program prepares students for transfer to a four-year baccalaureate degree in music business or a related field, with the ultimate goal of finding employment in one or more areas within the modern music industry. It also serves the student interested in an associate’s degree as a terminal degree before pursuing employment in the music industry.

Numerous articulation agreements with four-year institutions enable JCC graduates to transfer seamlessly into degree programs associated with music and the arts.

JCC’s music program has long provided opportunities for JCC and high school students as well as community members to perform each semester in choral, band, and rock ensembles.

“The dynamic learning environment provided through JCC’s enhanced music facilities and programs will support students in countless ways,” said Maria Kindberg, JCC’s dean of arts, humanities, health sciences, and athletics. “We are extremely grateful to the Sheldon Foundation for its continued support of academic excellence at JCC.”
