The inaugural JCC Willie Rosas Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Gala will be held September 17 at St. Hedwig’s Social Center in Dunkirk.

The event, which begins with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m., includes dinner and live music by Johnny Ray and the Salsa Con Clase Orchestra.

Admission to the event is $10. Tickets can be obtained by calling Jamestown Community College’s North County Center, 716.363.6500.

Sponsors include JCC, the city of Dunkirk, Fieldbrook Foods, National Grid, Acacia Network, and Hispanics United of Buffalo.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the JCC Willie Rosas Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship program. The scholarship awards two students from underserved populations with $2,000 toward tuition at JCC. Recent Dunkirk High School graduates Melanie Morales and Isaiah Dipini are the first recipients of the scholarship.

Johnny Ray and his band have produced hits that salsa fans and dancers have enjoyed for the past 30 years. Ray, a percussionist and band leader, moved to New York City from Puerto Rico when he was a child. He has produced more than 40 recordings during his career.
