“Liaison,” a poem by Lin McNulty of Olean, received the grand prize in JCC's 2010-12 Four-County Poetry Competition.

Second place was awarded to Faith Tanner-Thrush of Olean for “quilling the words” and Isaac Bailey of Jamestown won third place for “Hidden Serpent.”

The poetry contest drew participants from JCC's service area, which includes Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegheny counties in New York and Warren County in Pennsylvania. Participants ranged in age from 16 to 89 and all four counties were well-represented.

Contest entrants had to live in one of these counties and be at least 16 years old as of June 2010. Submissions had to be original, unpublished works. While the initial judging was done by a panel of JCC judges, the final set of poems was sent to a professional poet for the final determination.

Previous grand prize winners are Joseph Dolan of Warren, PA and Mark Gillespie of Westfield.
