Recent JCC graduates Kathryn Andalora and Hannah Lorenc of Jamestown were among the State University and City University of New York placed on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society 2017 All-New York Academic Team for Community Colleges.

The students were honored for their academic achievements, leadership, and service to their colleges and communities.

The PTK academic team awards are sponsored by the New York Community College Trustees, the Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges, and the Faculty Council of Community Colleges.

Ms. Andalora, who earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts and sciences: early childhood education, is transferring to the State University of New York at Fredonia.

She received a JCC Global Learning Scholarship in fall 2016 to undertake a semester internship in childhood education in Valladolid, Spain. She also completed an internship at Fletcher Elementary School in spring 2016.

Ms. Andalora was a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Western New York Athletic Conference all-conference second team.

She is a counselor at Camp Mission Meadows and has volunteered at numerous community events.

Ms. Lorenc earned an honors program citation as part of her associate’s degree in liberal arts and sciences: social sciences. She will transfer to Cornell University in the fall.

She was a member of JCC’s Student Senate, serving on several of its committees, as well as the LGBT+ Alliance. Ms. Lorenc also represented JCC in the SUNY Model European Union.

Her community activities have included volunteering for Legal Assistance of Western New York, the Walnut Grove Archaeology Project, and the city of Jamestown’s Cultural Bridges Action Team.
