JCC students Alex Shipherd and Bryce Alexander will present details on their internships with the Roger Tory Peterson Institute from 6-7 p.m. on May 4 at RTPI. The program is free and open to the public.

Throughout the winter field season, Shipherd monitored known locations of roosting Northern harriers and short-eared owls within Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties while using GIS to find other probable locations.

Alexander assisted in conducting early detection surveys throughout Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Warren counties in search of the hemlock woolly adelgid. He also participated in educational outreach through RTPI’s collaborative forest pest outreach program.

For more information contact Elyse Henshaw at or call 665.2473 ext. 231. RTPI is located at 311 Curtis Street in Jamestown.
