Fillmore Central School won the 56th annual Media One’s High School Bowl tournament recently, defeating Maple Grove High School 85-54.

The match was held at JCC. Player of the Match honors went to Mason Kelley of Fillmore.

Fillmore team members include Mason Kelley, captain, Michael McDonald, Rory Kelley, and Josh Buck. The team is coached by William Kelley. Fillmore finished the year with an 8-1 record.

Fillmore will compete in the National Academic Championship in Washington, DC in early June.

Playing on the Maple Grove team were Michael Krempa, captain, Katie Allen, Reid Wight, Chase Boardman, Will Allen, Tori Lai, and Lauren Nelson. Maple Grove is coached by Jason VandeVelde. The team concluded the season with a 4-2 record.

The JCC Alumni Association provides a scholarship of $1000 per year for two years at JCC to a senior from Fillmore. Delta Kappa Gamma, the International Honor Society of Women Educators, contributes $250 in travel money to Fillmore to help the team attend the national competition. The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation provides $500 in scholarships to the Maple Grove team.

High School Bowl is produced by the Media One Group and broadcast on radio stations WJTN and WWSE in Jamestown.  The program is sponsored by JCC and the JCC Alumni Association, Affinity One Federal Credit Union, SKF Aeroengine North America, Weinberg Financial Group, Honest John’s Pizza and Wings, Pepsi, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Twenty-three schools from southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania competed in this year’s High School Bowl, which is produced by the Media One Group. Wendy Dyment, a faculty member at Cassadaga Valley High School, is moderator of the tournament.
