Ellicottville Central School won the Meeting of the Minds academic quiz bowl competition held recently at JCC's Cattaraugus County Campus.

The tournament, now in its sixth year, is open to academically talented high school students from southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. A student from the winning team receives a JCC scholarship.

Members of the Ellicottville team were Josh Bordini, Josh Lamphier, James Snider, Chris Snyder, Patrick Snyder, Caitlyn Toth, Rachel Welch, and Shannon Wilson. The team was coached by Ann Chamberlin with Lynn Nuthall as coach emeritus.

Questions in the competition covered a variety of topics including English, history, science, geography, visual and performing arts, technology, mathematics, current events, and essential information for living. Anne-Marie Ray, professor of English, and John Sayegh, dean of the Cattaraugus County Campus, served as moderators.

Teams from Friendship, Kane, Otto-Eldred, Port Allegany, and Smethport also participated in the event.
