JCC sophomore Donald Pool has been named a Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholar.

Gold Scholars each receive a $1,500 stipend and a special medallion. All Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars were listed in USA TODAY.

Pool, a Jamestown resident who will graduate from JCC this spring with an Associate in Science: Human Services degree, is president of the PTK chapter on JCC's Jamestown Campus. He has been active in the college's Non-traditional Student Network and Sign Language Club.

Also active as a student mentor, Pool was named to the JCC dean's list each semester and has volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America and American Red Cross.

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program. Honorees were recognized during All-State Community College Academic Team Recognition ceremonies. Pool, who was named to PTK's all-New York First Academic Team, attended a recognition ceremony in Albany on April 5.

An independent panel of judges considers outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service in the selection process.
