Tickets are available for JCC's March 29 bowling fundraiser to benefit a week of student community service.

Fountain Bowl in Jamestown is partnering with JCC to offer a special bowling rate from 5-10 p.m. on March 29. For $15, bowlers will get two games, shoe rental, and food specials. Proceeds will benefit JCC's Alternative Spring Break program. For tickets, contact Jessica Kubiak or Kim Irland at 716.338.1000.

Alternative Spring Break is a week of service at regional non-profit organizations during the full week of spring break: April 9-13. Last year, eight students spent their break volunteering at a soup kitchen, youth center, community garden, and senior day care facility.

“Not only did students learn that volunteering is meaningful and fun, but they really developed leadership and communication skills,” said Ms. Kubiak, JCC's director of academic initiatives, led last year's program.

Service sites are being finalized, and volunteer activities will depend on agency need. Service activities and reflective writing will help students understand the connection between service, life, and academics.

Student participants are expected to pay a $35 program fee to cover the costs of meals and transportation to sites. However, community members are invited to purchase tickets for the bowling fundraiser to help cover expenses.
