Academic WorldQuest, which tests players’ knowledge of current international politics, geography, global economics, history, and world cultures, was held at JCC on March 23.

International Institute of Buffalo representatives provided support and guidance for the competition among 15 teams.

Winning in the high school division was the Maroon Eagles team, which included Ellicottville Central School students Louisa Benatovich, Abby Sonnenberg, Alex Hunt, and Adam Silvernail. Warren Area High School’s Dream Team, featuring Joe Letko, Gareth Smith, and Scott Stewart, took second place.

Other schools participating in the competition were Eisenhower High School, Frewsburg Central School, the Liberty Partnerships Program at Jamestown High School, Sheffield Area High School, and West Valley Central School.

The Seekers, comprised of JCC students Joshua Freundschuh, LaDonaa Freundschuh, and Matthew Tsitso, took first place in the college division.

The event was made possible through the support of the Katharine Jackson Carnahan Endowment, the JCC Faculty Student Association, and JCC’s college program committee.

Nearly 5,000 students compete each year in Academic WorldQuest, which was established by the World Affairs Councils of America in 2002.
