The Vietnam War. Flower power. Hippies. Counter Cultural Revolution. Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations. Drugs. The draft. These were some of the more pressing issues of the 1960’s that inspired Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. With book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot, Hair was a Broadway breakthrough. It achieved everlasting fame by celebrating the lifestyle of hippies and flower children that welcomed the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. It’s an indictment of what was then known as The Establishment by people who aren’t perfect themselves.

The music was very energetic and pure, and featured some great songs that went on to be hits on the radio; among them “Aquarius,” “Easy to be Hard,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Let the Sunshine In,” and the title song, “Hair.”

The JCC Uncommoners and JCC Music Dept. presented their production of this legendary show.

Featured in the cast were Angelo Giuffre as Berger, Jeff Carpenter as Claude, Kenny Fabritius as Woof, Mike Taylor as Hud, Amara Offhaus as Sheila, Jillianne Dolce as Jeanie, and Jill Mahon as Crissy. Stephanie Fisher, Andrew Garvey, Steven Griffin, Jake Harvey, Terri Johnston, Shaina Miller, Kipp Reynolds, Michelle Sailor, Ylsa Turnquist, Susanne Duell, Derrick Lincoln, Nick Taylor, Giulia Giuffre, Deborah Tippett, and Leighann Hanson are The Tribe. Rounding out the cast was Rachel Mitchell, Don “D.T. Thomas, Anne Eklund, and Skip Anderson. Musical Director was Carol Svensen-Smith. Choreography was by Nicole Ten Eyck. Steven Gustafson was Technical Director. Robert Schlick directed.
