Events
There are currently four credit bearing ensembles at JCC that hold regular rehearsals
and perform on and off campus:
These ensembles are open without audition to all full-time and part-time students, faculty, and College Employees. They offer a rewarding musical experience to all who participate.
The JCC College Chorus, under the direction of music department head Brian A.
Bogey, is a mixed voice chorus of about 40 singers. Repertoire ranges
from choral
arrangements of pop tunes from The Beatles and The Beach Boys to masterworks
such as Faure's
Requiem. Typically, one concert is given each semester at the Scharmann
Theatre
at JCC. The College Chorus also takes part in an annual tour to bring
JCC's music program into area high-schools. Additionally, the chorus
performs at JCC's commencement ceremony in May.
JCC's Concert Band is directed by Ralph
Rasmusson. The band performs a wide variety of music including
orchestral transcriptions, concert marches, and showtunes. Certain
instruments may be provided by the College for members of the Concert Band.

Jazz Ensemble
Jazz Ensemble directed by Ralph Rasmusson includes a Vocal Jazz Ensemble directed
by Michael F. Kelly. The
band also welcomes flutes, clarinets, coronets, french horns and other lower
brass,
tubas,
and
string basses. The Jazz Ensemble works from written parts.
While no member is required to improvise a solo in concert, the Jazz Ensemble
is a great place for a musician who has never performed jazz to become
familiar with jazz styles and learn improvisation.

Rock Ensembles
Students at JCC are given the opportunity to participate in
their choice of rock ensembles under the direction of Bill
Eckstrom. These performing groups are organized to reflect student
interests
in particular rock styles and artists. Besides the usual instrumentation
of
guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and drums, the Rock Ensembles welcome saxophones,
trumpets and trombones, flutes, and vocalists.
