Job Description:

The Jamestown Jackals, are a professional minor league men’s basketball team looking for interns for the 2018 season. The commitment and time requirement can be individualized based off of your needs, where you can obtain 1, 2, or 3 credit hours towards your college degree program.

Home Game Dates

  • Friday, January 19 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, February 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, February 23 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 25 at 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 18 at 4 p.m.
  • Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
Requirements: 
  • Must have advanced communication skills
  • Work independently on projects
  • Work quickly and efficiently on assigned projects
  • Ability to work irregular hours as needed (includes all team home games)

The intern may be required to participate in a mandatory background check and drug testing at the beginning of the internship.

Credit Hours

  • 3 credits = 9 hours per week (total hours = 135)
  • 2 credits = 6 hours per week (total hours = 90)
  • 1 credit = 3 hours per week (total hours = 45)
Responsibilities: 

Assistant General Manager Intern

  • This position will work closely with the General Manager.
  • Handle all things game related, solving game related issues, making sure game day interns are accounted for, answering all questions, taking phone calls, and running errands if needed.
  • The ability to work under pressure, take initiative, communicate effectively, delegate,  and display a strong sense of leadership is required for this role.
  • This position will require intern to arrive two hours early to all home games as well as perform a final walk-thru of the empty facility prior to departing.

Assistant Coach Intern

  • Responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the Basketball program.
  • Assist with conducting practices, motivating players, viewing film, keeping stats, and instructing athletes in game strategies and techniques.
  • Intern is expected to attend all practices and games, arriving prior to the team and departing after all players have left.

Intern of Player Personnel

  • Working with Coaches and Managing Staff with recruitment, player evaluation, and ongoing player development and support.
  • Ensure team equipment and areas are kept clean and organized.
  • Intern is expected to attend practices and games, arriving prior to the team and departing after all players have left.

Team Trainer Intern

  • Collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
  • Apply protective or injury preventative devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
  • It is preferred, but not required that this position has a first aid certification.
  • Intern is expected to arrive to home games 1 hour early and stay until all players have received post game treatment.

Team Nurse Intern

  • Assist in conducting pre-season physical examination at the discretion of the team nurse/team doctor.
  • Assist in conducting an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness.
  • Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
  • It is preferred, but not required that this position has a first aid certification.
  • Intern is expected to arrive to home games 1 hour early and stay until all players have received post game treatment.

Team Nutritionist Intern

  • Assist in the coordination of player nutrition and wellness plans; including hydration and meal plans.
  • This position will be responsible for keeping water coolers and bottles filled as well as snacks for players at games.
  • Intern is expected to arrive to home games 1 hour early and stay until all players have received post game treatment.

Web Technician Intern

  • Maintain websites in terms of content, images and code.
  • Responsible for regularly checking and updating the team website.
  • Add creative and relevant input to projects.

Graphic Design Intern

  • Create professional graphics, images and designs for various mediums; such as flyers, posters, apparel design, etc at the discretion of the General Manager.
  • Assist the Social Media Intern with creating marketing materials for key social media platforms such as (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.).
  • Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and highly collaborative environment

Social Media Intern

  • Develop social media goals, content, and tactics for a targeted social media campaign using key social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.).
  • Implement, evaluate and assess the success of the social media campaign.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1 hour before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game; posting to social media before, during, and after the game.

Merchandise and Sales Intern

  • Responsible for inventory, set-up and take-down of merchandise areas
  • Responsible for cash and credit card sales and reporting all sales at the end of each home game; as well as online sales
  • Opportunity for creative implementation of new apparel ideas and marketing tools
  • Intern is expected to arrive 2 hours before all home games and stay until merchandise area is returned to team storage area.

Public Relations Intern

  • Identify, contact, and maintain contact records of organizations for potential sponsorship opportunities.
  • Foster positive relationships to enhance brand and reputation of #IntegrityFirst, Inc. and Jamestown Jackals.
  • Responsible for assisting with the coordination of community events, development of in-game promotional ideas, creation of player/team stories, and expanding the team’s media relations efforts.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of all in-game elements including, but not limited to, talent bookings, acts for halftimes, in-arena promotions, pre and post game activities, anthems, mascot, dance team, game staff etc.
  • Serves as assistant for mascot appearances and game duties as management sees fit.
  • This position will require intern to arrive two hours early to all home games as well as perform a final walk-thru of the empty facility prior to departing.

In-Game Promotion Activities Intern

  • Assist in the development and promotion of live Jackals events to create excitement around the team, ultimately increasing the profile and positive association of the Jackals’ brand.
  • Assist in implementing all necessary details before, during and after media promotion (i.e.: waiver forms, coordinate prizing, game night/event elements, contest rules and regulations, winner redemption, poster put-up and take-down, volunteer recruitment and coordination and other elements as required).
  • Apply principles of event management to maximize game day experience.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1.5 hours before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Ticket Sales Intern

  • Responsible for designing innovative strategies and marketing materials to be distributed at games and in the community.
  • Responsible for the sale and management of season, gameday, and group tickets.
  • Responsible for cold calling prospective customers in order to meet weekly, monthly and seasonal sales goals.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1.5 hours before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Journalism Intern

  • Assist with all aspects of journalism associated with the team from press releases and game recaps to website content and development.
  • Connects with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.)

Sound Engineer Intern

  • Supply family friendly music and sound system services at all home games including; setup, troubleshooting, wiring talent, and assisting the studio mixer.
  • Ensure that music compliments announcements, interviews and commentary before, during and at the conclusion of the games.
  • Must have some knowledge of music and be creative and professional with selection of songs and tons.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1 hour before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Videographer Intern

  • Capture game action, fans, promotions, and entertainment aspects of the game; including; game preview, warm-up video, halftime and post-game player and coach interviews, fan interview.
  • Cut and edit clips for use in highlight videos, online news distributions; website and social media.
  • Manage Jamestown Jackal’s YouTube channel, creating, editing, and uploading videos.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Broadcast Streaming Intern

  • Monitor and troubleshoot stream quality during live production.
  • Responsible for encoding assigned games, information and data.
  • Proficient in Wirecast or other encoding systems.
  • Respond well to any issue(s) pre-game, during, or post-game with the live stream.
  • Catalog finished product to be accessible for at-home subscribers.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Broadcast Commentator Intern

  • Play-by-Play or Color commentating for all home games.
  • Great grasp of English and the ability to present yourself in a fun but mature manner.
  • A good knowledge of the NBA rules.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Photographer Intern

  • Capture images at all home games as well as team engagements
  • Be able to plan and maneuver movements to capture the necessary images required
  • Edit, organize and sort images for future use.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Security Intern

  • Responsible to foster a safe environment at games and events by patrolling property, monitoring equipment, ensuring policies are respected and guests have correct credentials.
  • Follow appropriate protocol in responding to situations, writing incident reports, and providing follow up with appropriate staff.
  • Previous security experience a plus but not required.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1.5 hours before all home games and be able to stay until fans have left the facility.

Statistician Intern

  • Research and understand the storylines and statistics of each team.
  • Confirm Starting lineups, officials and any other pregame information needs of the production crew.
  • Responsible for calling and/or inputting official statistics for all home games.
  • Help answer questions regarding plays that just happened. For example: Which player was the foul on? Was the last shot a 2 or 3 point field goal?
  • Identify trends and statistics that help tell the story of the game.
  • Communicate stats and trends to announcers effectively without interrupting or intruding on their flow of the game. Answer any questions the announcers may have.
  • Must know NBA rules and regulations.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Hospitality Internship

  • Greet fans and scan tickets as they enter the facility.
  • Troubleshoot any customer or ticket concerns that arise.
  • Intern is expected to arrive 1.5 hours before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.

Mascot

  • Perform at games and outside appearances, focusing on positive fan engagement
  • Train and prepare for appearances
  • Manage appearance calendar to ensure attendance for all scheduled events
  • Perform mascot duties in a manner deemed acceptable according to the Jamestown Jackals and affiliate standards and ethics
  • Intern is expected to arrive 30 minutes before all home games and be able to stay the duration of the game.
  • Exposing the intern to the on-the-job decision-making process, having the intern perform research to enhance decision-making, training the intern to become part of the decision-making process, or some combination thereof.
