Job Description: 

Under the leadership of the engineering technician, intern will participate in cross-functional product/project development. This role places particular emphasis on manufacturing engineering duties and responsibilities in direct relation to product/project development, lean initiatives, continuous improvement activities, and engineering change processes.

Requirements: 

Applicants should have:

  • understanding of fixture design and the required use of fixtures
  • critical thinking skill and the ability to evaluate various solutions to problems
  • demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
  • strong customer orientation (internal and external)
  • ability to manage, develop, schedule, and track multiple projects simultaneously
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • proven analytical, independent decision making and problem resolution skills

Additional qualifications:

  • enrolled in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, industrial engineering, or similar program
  • 1+ years of experience with Solidworks
  • strong IS and PC skills (Microsoft Suite)
Responsibilities: 

 The following statements reflect the duties considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in this position.

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors and soliciting observations from operators
  • Develop standardized manufacturing processes and associated process instructions by studying process attributes; identify standard cycle times and key variables
  • Work closely with quality representatives to implement required process controls
  • Perform process audits and assist with in process inspections
  • Participate in reviews to identify tooling/fixture needs to meet customer requirements and performance standards, estimate/calculate related costs, develop fixture designs, prove effectiveness and implement in standard workflow where required
  • Complete ECR/ECN related tasks pertaining to processes, their controls, and related ERP data
  • Assist in management of fixture inventory including identification, storage/location and revision control
  • Assist in training manufacturing personnel on new product production process
  • Provide technical assistance to process development and engineering personnel
  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables; to include the identification of project dependencies and critical path
  • Effectively communicate project expectations with internal and external team members
  • Prepare and communicate project status reports
  • Develop and grow relationships with internal and external team members vital to the successful development of products/project
  • Develop best practices and tools for manufacturing engineering
  • Carry out assigned continuous improvement /cost reduction objectives
  • Other duties as assigned by the engineering technician
