Job Description: 

Interns will be assisting the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Education Department in Academic Assistance. Members will be focused on three main areas: English language arts, math, and STEM concepts.


Applicants should be/have:

  • Enthusiastic about serving as a member of Seneca Nation AmeriCorps program.
  • Organized team player that wants to make a difference serving struggling Native students.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organized and aptitude to manage details efficiently and effectively serving Native students.
  • Computer proficient, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility, patience, tolerance and willingness to learn new related skills.

Seneca Nation AmeriCorps members will be serving at one or more academic assistance sites under the direction and leadership of classroom teachers to provide academic assistance to students struggling to achieve grade level in ELA and/or math skill testing. Interns will provide individual guidance to students in ELA & Math-STEM fields and provide small group facilitation serving students as they engage during classroom activities skill building in ELA & Math-STEM. Interns will also assist teachers with classroom activities serving students, following the direction of the classroom teacher, promote STEM based careers with all students they interact with, and act with other AmeriCorps members as CERT trained emergency responders as part of Seneca Nation Emergency plan on occurrence of Seneca Nation Emergency Situation.
