Jamestown Community College’s Weeks Gallery invites you to its Annual Fall ArtParty on Saturday, October, 4, 2008.

Joel Whitaker kicks off the event with a brief slide presentation in the Sarita Hopkins Weeks Reception Hall at 6:20 p.m. The party begins at 7 p.m. in the Scharmann/Weeks lobby with wine and beer tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and music by Wendell Rivera’s Latin Jazz Ensemble - a group frequently featured at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and known for their smooth sun-kissed Puerto Rican jazz.

“This show presents a distinguished group of artists who create human figures that are classical beauty, innovation, and provocative,” says James Colby, director of the Weeks Gallery. Madigan’s Human Nature sun-prints are created when human forms and/or plants block or filter direct sunlight as it falls on large sheets of photographic paper. To’s In Transit, Familiar Voices adds surreal mixed media sculpture and installations. One sculpture combines a carved human figure, cigar box, and white cat made of fabric. Whitaker’s Referent photographs start with family snapshots; then he transforms the images by marking and puncturing the surfaces, adding studio light, and re-photographing.

Tickets: Call the Jamestown Campus FSA Box Office, 716-338-1187.
General admission, $10; area students & seniors, $8; JCC/FSA members, $6.

This exhibition program is made possible by Jamestown Community College, JCC’s Faculty Student Association, the FSA College Program Committee, and the JCC Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Southern Tier Brewing Company, and the Arthur R. Gren Co.

The Weeks Gallery's "cultural happenings" draw art enthusiasts from western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. The combination of art, music and poetry with culinary delights and camaraderie creates a unique urban ambience.
