My name is Genevieve Thevenin, and I am the residence director of Hillside Suites North at Jamestown Community College. I am originally from Yonkers, NY. I ultimately found my way to JCC because of my love for residence life. I was a resident assistant at Stony Brook University, where I earned a B.S. in Health Science with a concentration in Environmental Science. I was a first generation student, and navigating college was difficult. My parents are from Haiti, and they always stressed that college was important. Once there, it was sometimes hard to find a place to fit in, since I'd had the same friends from middle school until I went to college. I tried many activities and different jobs on campus, and once I became a resident assistant I knew that I'd found my niche. I loved helping my peers, being a role model, helping others figure out college, and showing them how resources on campus can open any door.
I hope to help residents at JCC by paying attention to their needs at different points of their academic journey. My goal is to help students complete their degree, understand that opportunities are endless, and to encourage students to take advantage of their resources. Hopefully in being dedicated to these goals, students will understand that the res life staff cares about their success.
