For 30 years, I have been a part of the international community of scientists as a researcher at several institutions, including the National Institutes of Health. I was also a member of the faculty at Pennsylvania State College of Medicine where I worked with Judith Bond, Ph.D., the current president of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Bond is also the president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

My research has been published in a variety of textbooks and in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Immunology, and others as recently as 2011.  Also, my work appeared on the cover of the Journal of Immunology in 2004, and the cover of the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2001. More recently, I returned home to be closer to family and accepted a faculty position at Houghton College, where I performed undergraduate research and was director of the pre-medical program. I left Houghton to build the JCC biotechnology program in 2008. JCC's biotechnology program now boasts an active involvement in the Science Undergraduate Research Initiative (SURI), and we are also participating in the High School Undergraduate Research Initiative/Science Undergraduate Research Initiative (HURI SURI). Thanks to these initiatives, area high school students will be able to perform research and take part in an interdisciplinary biology course.

I am interested in the role of metalloproteases and chemokines in white blood cell and cancer cell dissemination in tissue. I have also spent a number of years studying inflammatory bowel disease and other types of chronic inflammation.

I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions, and feel free to check out my interview in Science Magazine.
