An exhibition of works by several current and former JCC art faculty members is on display until October 13. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, and by appointment.

Coinciding with the exhibition will be a noontime poetry reading on September 27 featuring JCC faculty members Gerry Crinnin, Neil Flory, Justin March, Chris Munde, and Karen Weyant. Art faculty will discuss the works in the show at noon on October 5.

The exhibition features works by current faculty members David Anderson, Ray Bonilla, Gary Deckard, Debra Eck, Deric Ence, Don Hill, Heather Kanazawa, Yu Kanazawa, Mark Kirsch, Marilyn Martin, Richard Minard, and Kyle Turner and retired faculty member William Disbro.

Viewers will see colorful large non-representation abstractions by Minard and Heather Kanazawa, as well as naturalist drawings and paintings by Yu Kanazawa and Ray Bonilla. Disbro presents decorative collages of animal and human figures pieced together from hand-painted patterned paper.

Ence will show a series of wheel-thrown ceramic vessels decorated with stamped patterns. Various approaches to photography will be displayed, including a large grid of photographs that forms a single shot of Jamestown graffiti. Martin presents a photo series of old-fashioned stencils that are her poetic reflection on the history of typography, and Anderson knitted digital files together with software to form landscape abstractions.

Using hand-knitted columns hung from the gallery ceiling, Eck’s installation of “Women Hold Up Half the Sky” was inspired by the caryatid columns of female figures on the Erechtheum on the ancient Acropolis in Athens.
