The JCC Uncommoners have announced the cast for their spring show, A.R. Gurney's Sylvia

 

Performances are set for 8 p.m. on March 15, 16, 22, and 23 and 2 p.m. on March 24. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for JCC Faculty Student Association cardholders. Tickets can be obtained by calling JCC's box office, 716.338.1187, or purchasing online

The Archangels will perform during a coffeehouse at JCC's Jamestown Campus on March 20. The 7 p.m. performance, sponsored by the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship student club at JCC, will be held in the Student Union.

JCC has been awarded the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf collection by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The collection contains 25 books, three films, and access for one year to Oxford Islamic Studies Online.

Over 840 libraries and state humanities councils throughout the country were awarded the collection, which is comprised of books, films, and other resources designed to introduce the American public to the complex history and culture of Muslims in the United States and around the world.

JCC recently honored 45 area high school students from throughout southwestern New York as the 2013 students of the year in the College Connections program. In selecting the students of the year, schools were asked to consider College Connections participants who had embraced the challenges of completing college level work while in high school and demonstrated resourcefulness, integrity, and dedication.

JCC's Warren Center has been approved by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) for training through JCC's machine tool technology and welding technology certificate programs.

The Pennsylvania Targeted Industry Program (PA-TIP) provides awards up to the equivalent of the maximum state grant award or 75% of a student's allowable cost, whichever is less. Awards can be used to cover costs such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, and a living expense allowance.

Completion Day, part of an initiative among SUNY community colleges stressing the importance of graduating with a degree and setting long-term goals, will be held September 30 at JCC.

 

Students on JCC's Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses are encouraged to attend a Completion Day Fair during the noon hour to learn about the educational and career possibilities that develop when one completes an associate degree.

Students named to JCC's spring 2013 part-time student dean's list earned at least a 3.50 average, equal to a B plus or better, in six to 11 credit hours of letter-graded work included:                

      

Several JCC faculty members were promoted with the start of the 2013-14 academic year.

 

Students from JCC and other American and European colleges participated in a simulated European council summit during the annual SUNY Model European Union Simulation (SUNYMEU) in New York City earlier this month. The simulation is sponsored by the SUNY Institute for European Union Studies and Simulations (IEUSS) and the SUNY Center for Global Affairs. 

 

Participants examined terrorist threats against the EU, youth unemployment issues within the EU, and humanitarian intervention and refugee support for Syria.

JCC's choir, concert band, vocal jazz ensemble, and jazz ensemble will showcase a variety of music styles during a combined performance on May 7. The JCC rock ensembles perform on May 9. Both concerts will be performed in JCC's Scharmann Theatre. Admission to each concert is $4, general public; $3, area students and senior citizens; and $2, JCC Faculty Student Association members.
