Daniel A. Powers, vice president of worldwide sales and business development for, will deliver the 2011 commencement address at JCC's Cattaraugus County Campus on May 20 and at the Jamestown Campus on May 21.

The May 20 ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Olean YMCA/JCC Physical Education Center on Wayne St. in Olean. The commencement program in Jamestown begins at 10 a.m. in the Physical Education Complex.

Powers, who graduated from JCC in 1984, earned a bachelor's degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Recognized as a technology pioneer, Powers has focused his career on advanced technologies, business strategy, and information technology infrastructures.
Prior to joining Amazon's web services and cloud computing business last year, Powers led several strategic initiatives for IBM in security, cloud and grid computing, service oriented architecture (SOA), marketing, and mergers and acquisitions.

Powers is the founder of World Community Grid, which allows PC users to donate their spare CPU cycles to work on projects that benefit humanity. More than 500,000 volunteers have contributed enough computer power to make it the largest volunteer effort of its kind worldwide.

Powers is also a renowned presenter on cloud computing, security, SOA, open systems, Linux, and the open source movement.
