What is an internship?
• An internship is time spent at an organization or company, where students are given the opportunity to complete work assignments alongside regular employees. Internships may also be called fieldwork, placements, or experiential/cooperative education.

What kinds of work assignments do students complete?
• It varies depending on major and internship site. You will work with your faculty sponsor to develop educational objectives – the things you want to learn from your internship experience. You will work with your organization supervisor to develop job requirements – the specific projects that you will complete during your internship.

Who should complete an internship?
• Anyone interested in gaining real-world experience in the field of his/her choice
• Everyone who is enrolled in an AAS degree program:

o Business – Accounting
o Business – Business Administration
o Computer Information Systems
o Criminal Justice – Police
o Digital/Computer Technology
o Human Services*
o Information Technology*
o Mechanical Technology
o Medical Office Technology*
o Nursing*
o Occupational Therapy Assistant*
o Office Technology*
o Professional Piloting
* These degree programs have required internships.

• Some certificate programs have required internships:

o Computer Repair
o Corrections Officer Technology
o Early Childhood Development
o Law Enforcement Technology

Who is eligible to complete an internship?
• Full-time sophomores who have at least a 2.0 quality point average
• Second-semester freshman and part-time students may participate with permission of the faculty advisor

How do I get an internship?
• A list of internship opportunities can be obtained from the Counseling and Career Development Center on the Jamestown campus (COCE, across from the cafeteria) or the Counseling and Career Planning Center (College Center) and the Assistant Dean in each academic division:

o Arts, Humanities and Health Science: Roslin Newton
o Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology: Jean Schrader
o Social Sciences and Business: Greg Rabb

• Receive assistance in creating your resume and cover letter and preparing for your interview at the Counseling and Career Development Center
• To register for an internship, students must have a faculty advisor approve and oversee the experience
• Check with your academic advisor for more information
