The men and women featured here are just a few of the many recent high school
graduates who recognized the opportunity to receive a quality college education
while being part of a respected, competitive athletic program. Jamestown
Community College believes that education involves the body and spirit as well
as the mind. JCC students participate in athletics for a variety of reasons, but
whatever the motivation, that participation gives each student athlete an opportunity
to take a real measure of himself/herself and to pursue a goal of excellence through
personal discipline, striving, and hard work. Through JCC's active intercollegiate
athletics program, teams compete with community colleges throughout New York and
at the national level. All JCC students, regardless of the site at which they
attend classes, are welcome to participate.
Phifer to Serve as Interim Head Women’s Coach
Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus recently announced that Matt Phifer of Olean will serve as head of the Lady Jaguars until a permanent replacement is named.
Phifer, who also coaches the men’s team, will take the lead on recruiting for next season to ensure a strong line up for next fall, according to JCC Athletic Director Ben Lindquist, who announced last week that the women’s season had come to an end due to a declining roster.
Due to the cancellation of the women's season the start times for the remainder of our men's home basketball games will be adjusted. Instead of the regularly scheduled home start time of 8 p.m., men's games will begin at 7 p.m. JCC’s women’s basketball team competes within the National Junior College Athletic Association, Region III, Division II. Athletic Scholarships are available. For more information, contact Lindquist, at 716/376-7529.
