spend all my free time studying, but I seem to be getting nowhere.
Often it's not the hours you put
in that count, but what you put in the hours. Ask us about time management, note
taking, test taking, and reading strategies. I
missed class last week. How can I catch up? First,
see your instructor and get notes from someone in your class. Although we don't
teach new material, we'll be glad to answer your questions. I
don't understand the assignment. Can you tell me what the instructor wants?
It's better to clarify assignments
with instructors first. Then we'll be glad to help. I
never had to write papers in high school. Help! Come
early. A tutor can help you find a topic and organize your thinking for essays
and research papers. Later the tutor can help with proofreading. Computers (with
Microsoft Office '2000) are available for typing. Can
I get a tutor for economics? Most
tutors can help with math, English, and study skills. We try to have people who
tutor natural and physical sciences as well, but we don't have a tutor for every
course. Ask to see who might be available this semester. If four or more of you
would like a study group in an area, we'll help find a group leader to meet with
you once or twice a week. My
math instructor goes too fast. What can I do? A
lot is covered in a fifteen-week semester. Work with a tutor to get extra practice
or have questions answered. I
need a quiet place to study. The
Learning Assistance Center offers an adjoining quiet room for test-taking and
quiet study. What
is the cost of the Learning Assistance Center? It's
free! Do I have
to make an appointment? No,
but you're more likely to receive uninterrupted attention if you do.
