Jamestown Community College Student Lab Printing Guidelines

General Information

Due to increasing printing costs and abuse of printing privileges, Jamestown Community College has adopted a new policy on network lab printers.  Beginning with the Spring 2005 semester, each student will be permitted to print 500 pages of paper on the network laser printers free of charge.  Students will have an option of purchasing additional pages at any point during the semester.  Students will be informed of their quota balance by logging onto lab workstations.  A dialog window appears in the upper right corner of the desktop with the print quota balance listed as a monetary value.  All students will initially be given a balance of $50.00 per semester and each page printed will deduct $0.10 from that balance.  This $50.00 balance is already paid and is part of your Technology Fee assessment.  A warning message will appear when your balance drops below $5.00.

Increasing Print Quota Balance

You may add to your print quota balance at anytime during the semester.  Additional Print quota balance may be purchased in the business office in $5 blocks.  Students must present the valid receipt of the purchase to the computer lab managers*.  This added amount will be added to your account within 24 hours. There is a minimum purchase of $5 and the balance will not carry over to the following semester or into the summer.

Other Printing Restrictions

In addition to the quota system, other policies have been implemented to reduce printing costs.  Documents that are over 15 pages in length will automatically be rejected by the print servers.  If you need to print a document over 15 pages in length, we recommend you break the document into 2 separate print jobs.  Keep in mind you will still be charged for each page.  Duplicate documents sent to be printed within 60 seconds of the first one, will be automatically rejected.

Student Responsibility

Students are encouraged to use the JCC computing privileges responsibly.  Normally, JCC will not be responsible for accidental or unintended printouts, nor will it be responsible for unclaimed printouts sent to the wrong printer.  If you are experiencing difficulties or wish to report a problem, please contact the computer lab manager* to discuss the issue.
