Can a potential employer ask you for your Facebook username and password?
It has become almost standard procedure in the age of social networks for an employer to search online for information about a job candidate. However, an article from the Associated Press on March 20th has intensified the national debate about Internet privacy issues. The article described a practice that has become increasingly common, especially with government agencies, whereby an interviewer will ask for a candidate’s username and password in order to look through the private profile on their Facebook page.
What is ScienceDirect?
ScienceDirect doesn’t look like most of the databases you are familiar with, but after a little exploration it may become one of your “go-to” sources. It contains a multitude of books and peer-reviewed journals, and some multi-media (video) materials. Full-text access is available for many sources and citations, abstracts, or chapter previews are available for all other sources. Coverage focuses on science, technology and medicine, but the database also contains materials on other topics such as art, history, religion, sociology, business management, economics, psychology, and linguistics.
Where can you find it?
Recently our friendly JCC physics professor, Marie Plumb, sent out an email reminding each of us to remember to look up at night and we would be rewarded. Well, I did just that last night and she was so right! Currently, Venus and Jupiter can be seen very closely together in the west and Mars glows orange in the East. After viewing the night sky I have decided to look further. The JCC Libraries' have a couple of fantastic books for the inner astronomer in all of us!
JCC’s Hultquist Library 2nd annual poetry slam took place Wednesday, March 7th in The Pit. Ten JCC students showed off their poetic talents. Every student had a unique poem to share with us and all impressed us with their talents! This year's event started out with a sacrificial poet, Cynthia McKane, JCC Librarian, who recited a poem she wrote as a JCC student.
